Why Is Mercedes GLB Discontinued In India

The 7-seater car market segment is quite big here in India. This has been the driving force behind the growth of the sector which led to the availability of several 7-seater cars from multiple car makers.

Mercedes also entered the sector with several 7-seater models. However, none of those cars came with ‘somewhat’ accessible price tag except the Mercedes GLB.

To learn about the car details, refer to the sections below.

What made the Mercedes GLB special?

As per the collective opinion of used car dealers who specialize in selling luxury cars, the Mercedes GLB, even with its hefty price tag, was the most affordable SUV from Mercedes.

This statement holds true when one takes a look at the used car valuation online for this particular model, in popular used car portals.

Then there is the fact that the GLB shares its well-laid-out interior with the GLA. Also, the car came with 2 giant 10.25-inch screens as the car’s infotainment system as well as its instrument cluster.

Other attractive features provided in the Mercedes GLB are as follows –

  • MBUX system
  • Wireless charging
  • Electric front seats
  • Ventilated front seats
  • TPMS

In terms of engine, the car came with a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that was tuned to produce 161 bhp & 250 Nm. The diesel unit was a 2.0-litre engine that was tuned to produce 188 bhp & 400 Nm. The petrol engine was mated to a 7-speed DCT whereas the diesel unit was mated to an 8-speed DCT. If you can get your hands on the AMG iteration of the GLB, then you will have access to an AWD transmission.

Why was the Mercedes GLB discontinued in India?

The Mercedes GLB was Discontinued in India because it came with a hefty price range of INR. 75.66 Lakh - Rs 80.85 Lakh. The reason behind this price range is that the car came in the form of CBU. Then there is the fact that Mercedes bought a handful of GLB to India and that entire stock is now sold off. Mercedes is already working on the next generation of the GLB. As per automotive sources, the next generation of the GLB is expected to hit the Indian car market by or before the end of 2026.

Furthermore, as per the research conducted by automobile enthusiasts at AutoHealth, since Mercedes already offers multiple SUVs in India such as the G class, selling the GLB didn’t make much sense.

What should you buy now as the Mercedes GLB is discontinued?

As the Mercedes GLB is now discontinued by its parent company, and if you want to own a 7-seater made by Mercedes, you can go for the Mercedes-Benz GLC 200.

In terms of positioning, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 can be considered an entry-level luxury 7-seater. The car is popular among Mercedes enthusiasts as the car combines premium materials with elegant design.
