When you want to buy a used car in Kolkata, you need to be extra cautious, as the city during the monsoon tends to get waterlogged. This means that lots of cars will be water-damaged and will end up in used car lots. If you want to avoid buying a car with water damage and related electrical and mechanical issues, then follow this checklist.

Be Thorough During Physical & Mechanical Inspections

  • Don’t shy away from lifting the carpet of the car so that issues like a rusted floor are revealed. You should also check the boot space of the car, and if that space has a musty smell, then avoid that car as it has been flooded at least once! You can buy a vehicle history report for the car and look for insurance claims on dates that match the monsoon season of Kolkata, just to be sure!
  • You should also open up the fuse box or take a magnifying glass to look at the electrical harnesses of the car in a bid to gauge the overall electrical health of the car. A simple glance at the vehicle’s car service history will also reveal if the previous owner(s) of the car took care of it when its wiring was damaged with white/green corrosion after the vehicle was flood-damaged!
  • Next up, do not forget to check the undercarriage of the car after it has been taken to a service center and put up on a ramp. A shiny car with a rusted undercarriage means that the used car seller is trying to dupe you by making a few cosmetic changes to the car that was declared as a ‘total loss’ by its insurer!
  • You should also start the engine of the car when it gets completely cold and look at the vehicle’s tailpipe. If the car is emitting blue or white smoke, then avoid buying it!
  • Also, if a used car passes all the above steps, take a test drive of the car and intentionally drive it over bad patches of the road. If you hear thudding or clunking sounds coming from the undercarriage of the car, then it indicates the vehicle’s suspension system is shot! Avoid buying this car at all costs!

Verify Vehicle Documents & Its History

  • Buy a used car only when it comes with a complete car service history in Kolkata. Also, make sure that the used car’s vehicle history report in Kolkata shows the vehicle was serviced only at OEM service centers and that too, on time!
  • Also, avoid used cars in Kolkata that do not come with authentic legal documents such as Registration Certificate (RC), Insurance, and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.
  • Furthermore, a used car that has pending loans or lots of unpaid challans should also be avoided, as these financial obligations are also transferable. It means that, pending financial obligations of a used car have to be cleared by its new owner!

Vigilance Is Important When Buying Used Cars In Kolkata!

AutoHealth is the only way you can stay away from a problematic used car. Avoid doing this, and your newly bought used car will only bring you misery and not joy every time you take the vehicle out for a drive on Kolkata roads!
